The Austin Police Department Training Academy graduated 19 new officers on May 30, 2014, at Austin Cornerstone Church. These officers were in a modified class which expedites their training as they have previous service as peace officers in other locations. The Austin Police Honor Guard Pipe and Drum Corps led the procession of graduates and Austin Police Senior Chaplain Rick Randall gave the invocation. The graduates, their families and friends, and the APD Command and Training staff heard a personal and moving address by Distinguished Speaker Chief Howard Williams of the San Marcos PD, formerly an Austin police officer for over 20 years. APD Chief Art Acevedo addressed the graduates and their families, conducted the police badge pinning, and administered the oath of office. He congratulated them on their achievements, praised their dedication, and welcomed them to the force. Following the graduation ceremony, the Austin Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association provided a reception for the graduates and their guests.
